The aim of the present research was to characterise the main neuronal types of the sheep ileum and to verify the presence of Dogiel type II cells in the MP and SMP plexus of the sheep ileum by immunohistochemical reactions applied on whole-mount tissue preparations. The Dogiel type II cells were distributed in both MP and SMP and showed immunoreactivity for ChAT, Calbindin, Substance P, Neurofilament 68kD and Neuronal Nuclei.
