My essay aims at exploring some early modern examples where attempts to imagine the existence of European cultural roots and of a possible European community are taking place. In particular, the analysis will foucs on travel accounts and books of maps that were printed in this age. in line with the debates on this subjects, my hypothesis is that a plurality of languages all interwoven one with the other contributed to the formulation of the idea of Europe by producing a concept that rooted itself in the language despite its inability to explain a stable notion of what in reality Europe was, and to fix where and when Europe started and stopped.
