The combined negative effects of poorest social groups concentration and residential monofunctionality of “Pilastro” neighborhood have been worsen by the urban form rigidity, the repetitiveness of building typologies, the inadequacy of public spaces. It produced a high level of social strains since the project first stage, but it also stimulated the organization of group of residents very active in claiming better living conditions, which contribute to rise the neighborhood social identity. The effective measures adopted by the City government and the Housing public agency to meet these requests have lessened the more acute levels of social distress: the main technical and functional problems have been fixed and a number of actions have been adopted to involve the inhabitants in neighborhood management. However, the lack of “urban effect” is still an evident fault of the neighborhood and it must be corrected. A more vital presence of services and commercial facilities and an intense functional and perceptual retrofitting of the buildings could allow to reach better living conditions for the residents and to valorize “Pilastro” as a recognized element of the urban social geography of Bologna city.

Abstract
A more vital presence of services and commercial facilities and an intense functional and perceptual retrofitting of the buildings could allow to reach better living conditions for the residents and to valorize “Pilastro” as a recognized element of the urban social geography of Bologna city.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
