The aim of this chapter is to look at rural and agricultural development policies and current ongoing dynamics in Mozambique focusing, in particular, on how these impact on women’s empowerment and the promotion of gender equality—a key element of the country’s political rhetoric since the liberation war era and throughout the different stages of political and economic change in the country, notwithstanding the persistence of entrenched structures of gender inequality and ambivalent results in promotion and implementation of gender related policies.
