The aim of the book is to provide managers of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe's program with both a practical and theoretical step by step guide about principles and practices for planning, building and managing transnational cultural tourism products. Following the EU Policy background on tourism, the competitiveness of the European tourism industry is closely linked to its sustainability, as the quality of tourist destinations is strongly influenced by their natural and cultural environment and their integration into the local community. The Council of Europe Cultural Routes Program and Enlarged Partial Agreement, fosters the development of serial tourism destinations "off the beaten tracks". This implies an integrated approach in the planning, programming and managing of the Routes, linking different aspects of local development. The book gives an insight about the statutory documents needed for the implementation of Cultural Route recognized by the Council of Europe, the underpinning philosophy managers should have in the route's implementation and several practical toold for community involvement, territorial development and marketing of the routes.
