Compact as redefinition. The semantic densification

"Architecture consists of ordering, which in Greek is called taxis, and of design which the Greeks call diathesis, in shapeliness and symmetry, in correctness and distribution which in Greek is oikonomia." (Vitruvius, Book I, I.II) Thus, by "problem of the contemporary city" we mean a contradiction with Book I of Vitruvius' De architectura: the contemporary city is untidy. The urban question is reduced to the point of view of architecture: the architectural problem of the city, or the city seen architecturally. In this lesson we will look at types, or some possible types of order, until reaching a type of order we deem plausible and probable in the current condition of the city.
