The analysis of the external images of the European Union (EU) has attracted a growing attention in the past decade. Although still limited in terms of research projects and publications, the field of inquiry is a speedily developing and a highly promising one. Particularly promising is the area of analysis of external images of the EU in the context of international institutions. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of such a literature with particular attention to the section on international institutions. Lessons on images of the EU are drawn and avenues of future research identified.
