The first European Conference on Service-Oriented and Cloud Computing (ESOCC) was held in Bertinoro (Italy) on September 19–21, 2012. This was the first meeting in a new conference series born on the past experience of the Steering Committee with the organization of the ECOWS (European Conference on Web Services) conference series. The start of this new series was based on the desire to renew and broaden the original scope of ECOWS and to provide a fo- rum where researchers and practitioners could discuss the latest advances on the topics of service-oriented and cloud computing, and foster future collaborations in Europe and beyond.
