This work is about the study of the dynamic behavior of cantilever plates partially or totally immersed in water. Under the assumption of ideal fluid and irrotational flow, the effect of water on the body can be represented by an added mass that increases the inertia of the system and consequently reduces the resonance frequencies. To assess the amount of that contribution, an extensive experimental campaign, dedicated to the study of the resonance frequencies of plates with different width, thickness and material, was performed. On the basis of the results obtained, a model was developed that can determine the distribution of added mass as a function of the width of the plate, the immersion’s depth and the vibration mode. The distribution in mass proposed was then implemented into a FEM code and the results were compared with the experimental tests that showed an error lower than 10%.

Abstract
The distribution in mass proposed was then implemented into a FEM code and the results were compared with the experimental tests that showed an error lower than 10%.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
