The essay explains the notion of 'urbicide' starting from the definition of Bogdan Bogdanovic (who considers it as the "ritual murder of the city") up to the most recent theories that reconnect urbicide to processes of political violence (Martin Coward, Stephen Graham). Some space is given to theorists who consider some policies of urban planning as "urbicidal". The article deals the topic of urbicide mainly with regard to the Mediterranean space, the recent Mediterranean wars (especially Balkans' war).
