The essay explores the relationship between two almost contemporary novels, even if they were marked by very different editorial destinies: A menina morta by Cornélio Penna (1954) and Grande sertão: veredas, by João Guimarães Rosa (1956). It is possbile to justify the combination of the two divergent works, approaching the counter-narrations on power during the processes of the modernization in Brazil, allegorized in the Casa Grande in Penna's novel and in the Sertão in Rosa's work. This perspective is developed through a critical reflection on a device such as the state of exception and a broad analysis on its biopolitcal exercise in the symbolic spaces of the narratives.

Abstract
The essay explores the relationship between two almost contemporary novels, even if they were marked by very different editorial destinies: A menina morta by Cornélio Penna (1954) and Grande sertão: veredas, by João Guimarães Rosa (1956). It is possbile to justify the combination of the two divergent works, approaching the counter-narrations on power during the processes of the modernization in Brazil, allegorized in the Casa Grande in Penna's novel and in the Sertão in Rosa's work. This perspective is developed through a critical reflection on a device such as the state of exception and a broad analysis on its biopolitcal exercise in the symbolic spaces of the narratives.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
