Titanium and titanium alloys are widely used for fabrication of dental implants and prostheses for their excellent biocompatibility and favorable mechanical properties, although possible esthetic compromises. However traditional titanium-ceramic bonding techniques used in dental crowns and bridges have demonstrated debonding episodes leading to ceramic fractures. In recent years, zirconia ceramics have become attractive as new materials for crown and bridge restorations because of its tooth-like color, translucency and good adhesion to the ceramic veneer. Zirconia particles could have great potential if used as a coating material. We evaluated the adoption of a new zirconiabased coating to enhance the titanium-ceramic adhesion and provide metal-ceramic restorations with high success rates.
