Abstract
The attention and commitment on the issues of preservation and protection of cultural heritage are proportional to the degree and quality of historical knowledge. To take care of this different components of the heritage we should to know, because only the knowledge can be derived the consideration and respect of them, and the sense of belonging, of solidarity between all those who today live and share the same environments that may well become a common ground for different identity and ancestry. The present and recent past, their locations and their territory may be considered the objectives aimed towards the more distant past, the permanent observatory to look through the remote or recent history as a great collective representation in which each more or less consciously plays its part. In this perspective the history acquires an effective multidisciplinary and greater concreteness, as a field comparison of the interrelations between local events and overlocal trends and changes. The preservation and enhancement of cultural and historical legacy of history demands which are not only in schools but also in the society and in the economy in order to give the rich historical and artistic value of resource. The schools and the citizens, the associations can be - and often already engage in this sense – the agency survey and protection of assets in their territory, among other things, giving a concrete meaning to study of local history. With this background and motivation to recover and promote knowledge of the historical heritage of a city and its territory becomes a goal and a means by which to recall and bring together all the components of the social fabric of a role in cultural development and tourism. The awareness of students and citizens can have a significant economic return is a growing awareness of the value of the assets and thus promoting their access, both empowering and involving the pupils in its respect and its maintenance. In this paper we present a series of educational research projects and new challenges and perspectives that the city of Bologna has undertaken in the last few years regarding the teaching of history and heritage education. It seems to us the the best place to begin is with the city itself, the urban place, a meeting place of history and stories.
