The paper addresses the issue of 'feminization of poverty' in Mozambique by looking at the relationship between income, consumption expenditure, living conditions and "capabilities", asset ownership and poverty. Women's consumption patterns and capabilities appear to be different from men's, even when their income is equal. And yet, they do not appear to be poorer than men when poverty is measured by consumption expenditures. When poverty is measured by capabilities, women are poorer than men: women do not spend less than men, and yet they are more vulnerable and have less access to services and entitlements.

Abstract
The paper addresses the issue of 'feminization of poverty' in Mozambique by looking at the relationship between income, consumption expenditure, living conditions and "capabilities", asset ownership and poverty. Women's consumption patterns and capabilities appear to be different from men's, even when their income is equal. And yet, they do not appear to be poorer than men when poverty is measured by consumption expenditures. When poverty is measured by capabilities, women are poorer than men: women do not spend less than men, and yet they are more vulnerable and have less access to services and entitlements.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
