This chapter provides an overview on the development, features, assessment and clinical implications of the concepts of sick role, illness behavior, abnormal illness behavior and illness perception. In particular, the instruments for the measurement of somatization, hypochondriasis, disease phobia, thanatophobia, health anxiety, and denial of physical and psychological symptoms are described.
