An increasing number of natural scientists worldwide have become involved in and dedicated to heritage conservation. At the same time, there are no formal educational programmes for scientists wishing to become conservation scientists. A two-year project, named “Guidelines for Post Graduated Education and training in Conservation Science”, funded by the EU Alfa programme, was launched by the University of Bologna in collaboration with six partner universities from Europe and Latin America. The aim of the project is to offer guidelines to educational institutions for designing and implementing university curricula, including training, practice and research for conservation scientists. The curricula will be structured into modules and didactic units. Some core courses of common knowledge necessary for interdisciplinary work with cultural property will also be identified and developed. Furthermore, the project will seek to establish a partnership of academic institutions willing to develop a pilot application of the proposed curricula. The Guidelines will be delivered in a CDROM format and made available to academic Institutions upon specific request to the project coordinator.
