To monitor the nanocrystallization process induced in a metallic glass by high-energy mechanical attrition, we have prepared a set of powdered samples by ball-milling a melt-spun Fe80Si7B13 amorphous ribbon for different times between 10 and 70 hrs. All the samples, especially those milled for shorter times, show a peculiar magnetic behavior that seems consistent with the presence of a new magnetic phase, with low temperature spin-glass like properties (speromagnetic), namely with a magnetic character completely different from that of the precursor ferromagnetic amorphous ribbon. To better characterize this peculiar phase, we have carried out inelastic neutron scattering measurements on selected samples at the IN4 facility of ILL, to study the changes in the low energy vibrational spectrum as a function of milling time.
