This is a survey on "Hebrew Books in Cremona", dealing with Hebrew Books and Manuscripts copied or printed in Cremona and preserved, whole or in fragments, in that town. It concentrates especially on the brief but very fertile period, in the 1950s and 1960s, when the Christian printer of Hebrew books Vincenzo Conti was active in Cremona. Some documents concerning the activity of Sixtus of Siena and the Inquisition in Cremona, specifically aimed at the censorship of Hebrew books and on the destruction of forbidden books are presented and evaluated. The commercial and ideological entanglements of this very influential enterprise are briefly discussed.
