Exploring photovoice and emotional mapping to visualise alternative imaginaries of shrinking areas

This contribution aims to present a methodological analysis of the use of photovoice and participatory emotional mapping in a collaborative visual study aimed at co-constructing new representations of migration in European peripheral areas. In its first section, it delves into visual methods in migration research. Second, it introduces the visual research carried out in European “welcoming spaces” and the methods adopted. Finally, after presenting some initial findings, the contribution critically analyses the co-construction process that aimed to visualise images and experiences from “the margins” and bring them back to the centres.
