This study examines the ideological dimensions within the lexicographic sections of L’italiano istruito nella cognizione della lingua spagnuola (1833), a Spanish grammar book for Italian speakers by Francisco Marín. Through frameworks from critical lexicography and ideological analysis, it reveals how lexical selections reflect the socio-political and cultural values of early nineteenth-century upper-bourgeois Roman society. The research identifies key ideological domains—warfare, gender, geography, commerce, religion, justice, and language norms—and shows how lexicographic choices both mirror and shape dominant ideologies. The use of earlier French sources points to a continuity of ideological patterns preceding the book’s publication. This case highlights how such texts function not only as pedagogical tools but also as ideological instruments shaping social perception.
