This is an Anthology collecting a selection from some of the most interesting observations on the theatre and drama of the Romantic age. The texts here reproduced reflect the degree to which most of the major romantic writers, men and women, were involved in the threatre of their own time, and demonstrate that their observations were often informed by their various experience as playwrights, reviewers, critics, actors and regular playgoers. More important, they question and problematize the supposed antitheatricality of Romanticism. These writings range from positive assessments of theatrical productions to ambivalent ones. All, however, display full engagement with stage representation.

Abstract
This is an Anthology collecting a selection from some of the most interesting observations on the theatre and drama of the Romantic age. The texts here reproduced reflect the degree to which most of the major romantic writers, men and women, were involved in the threatre of their own time, and demonstrate that their observations were often informed by their various experience as playwrights, reviewers, critics, actors and regular playgoers. More important, they question and problematize the supposed antitheatricality of Romanticism. These writings range from positive assessments of theatrical productions to ambivalent ones. All, however, display full engagement with stage representation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
