The contribution offers an overview of the field of spiritual assistance in so-called 'segregating' and 'totalizing' institutions, both with regard to assistance provided to Catholic faithful and to that offered to adherents of non-Catholic denominations. After a general framing of the topic, the analysis focuses in greater detail on the main relevant contexts: spiritual assistance in the Armed Forces, in hospitals and social-healthcare facilities, and in preventive detention and penal institutions.

Il contributo offre una panoramica sull'ambito dell'assistenza spirituale nelle cosiddette strutture 'segreganti' e 'totalizzanti', in relazione sia a quella prestata ai fedeli cattolici, sia a quella a favore degli aderenti a confessioni acattoliche. Dopo un inquadramento generale della tematica, la trattazione si sofferma più nel dettaglio sui singoli contesti maggiormente rilevanti: l'assistenza spirituale nelle Forze Armate, negli ospedali e nelle strutture socio-sanitarie, negli istituti di prevenzione e pena.
