Il Castello di Elsinore is a scientific journal of theatre and performing arts deeply rooted in Italian academia, but with an international outlook. Founded in 1988 and edited by the Department of Artistic, Musical and Performing Arts at the University of Turin, since 2026 it has been published by the Department of Arts at the University of Bologna. The topics covered by the journal span the entire history of the performing arts in Europe and beyond. The approach of the new series aims to maintain continuity with the historical series, thus giving priority to essays of a historiographical nature, and is predominantly devoted to theatre from the more or less distant past.
Il Castello di Elsinore è una rivista scientifica di teatro e spettacolo profondamente radicata nell’Università italiana, ma con una vocazione internazionale. Fondata nel 1988 e curata dal Dipartimento di Discipline Artistiche, Musicali e dello Spettacolo dell’Università di Torino, dal 2026 è pubblicata dal Dipartimento delle Arti dell’Università di Bologna. I temi di cui la rivista si occupa attraversano l’intera storia delle arti dello spettacolo europeo ed extra-europeo. Il taglio della nuova serie intende porsi su una linea di continuità rispetto alla serie storica, sicché privilegia i saggi di carattere storiografico, ed è prevalentemente votata al teatro del passato più o meno lontano.
