Interpreters’ interest in their own wellbeing has grown parallel to their professionalization and the institutionalization of Interpreting Studies in academia. Initially based on their first-hand experience of work-related health issues, and later also informed by studies promoted primarily by professional associations, interpreters have shared practical suggestions on how to promote their wellbeing – both physical (voice, hearing, upper body) and psychological (cognitive stress, vicarious trauma, burnout). The overview of these suggestions provides a valuable starting point for proactively protecting interpreters’ health, as it raises awareness among all those directly or indirectly involved in interpreting regarding the profession’s wellbeing demands and better equips them to address these challenges.
