This article contains the initial results of an experiment of breast-feeding protection, promotion and support carried out in an Italian pharmacy during 2007. The project, the first of its kind in Europe, has been presented under the patronage of the Italian Committee for UNICEF. The idea of a Breastfeeding Friendly Pharmacy is based on a network between midwives, pediatricians and pharmacists, all interconnected and working together to increase breastfeeding initiation, exclusivity and duration.
