Alma Mater University Chess Tournament 2025

The structure of the book is as follows: • Chapter 2 introduces the University of Bologna and the venue of the competition: the historic Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna (BUB). • Chapter 3 surveys chess as a game with multiple dimensions: international, historical, scientific, and cultural at large. • Chapter 4 recounts the genesis of the tournament, the participating universities, and the full list of players, along with their titles and Elo ratings. This chapter also includes short interviews with all team captains (see Section 4.2). • Chapter 5 presents the pairings and results of each round, along with selected games, some of them annotated by the players themselves. A specific section reports the final standings, both by team and by board. • Chapter 6 describes the ShashGuru project, the AI system for conversational chess analysis that supported the analysis rooms during the tournament and awarded to the best game. • Chapter 7 provides closing remarks and reflections.
