This chapter introduces Mocha through the architectural survey conducted by the IUO Mission in the 1990s, when most of the historic town was already in ruins. It documents surviving buildings, mosques, and tombs, analyzing their locations, architectural features, and historical significance within the former intra- and extra-mural city. The study highlights Mocha’s declining preservation state while reconstructing its urban layout and key religious and civic landmarks.
