The animated video is a direct outcome of an interdisciplinary research project combining legal theory, cognitive psychology, and legal design, aimed at improving public understanding of the rule of law. The research showed that non-experts often perceive rule-of-law concepts as abstract and difficult to contextualize. Instead of relying on the common “rules of the game” metaphor frequently used in explanatory videos—which the project identified as conceptually inadequate—the team developed a school-based narrative centered on an unfair grade. By translating principles such as transparency, reason-giving, and protection against arbitrariness into a familiar classroom setting, and by applying human-centered design methods, the video demonstrates how research-driven communication can make core rule-of-law ideas more concrete and accessible.
