Tra autore umano e narratore non-umano: elementi linguistici e ideologie ne La nazione delle piante di Stefano Mancuso

The present contribution aims to analyse, from an ecolinguistic and ecostylistic perspective, the concept of authorship by focussing on a peculiar case-study. The analysis will investigate a speech contained in Stefano Mancuso’s La nazione delle piante (2019), a fictional scientific text in which the author uses an unusual and provocative narrative voice: a plant, representative of the nation of the plants, who, by addressing the United Nations General Assembly, invites the human world to rethink its relationship with nature and the other living beings. The analysis seeks to investigate how the plant world represents itself through a human language – and author – and how the latter affects the construction of the narrative viewpoint. The study has a twofold objective: on the one hand, it shows the linguistic strategies adopted by the author, through a methodological approach that combines ecolinguistics and ecostylistics; on the other hand, it analyses the relationship between human author and non-human narrator, in order to reveal the ideologies behind a narrative which has the power to reconceptualise the position of human beings within a multispecies hierarchy.

Il presente lavoro propone di analizzare, da una prospettiva ecolinguistica ed ecostilistica, il concetto di autorialità a partire da un caso-studio singolare nel suo genere. Verrà preso in esame un discorso contenuto ne La nazione delle piante (2019) di Stefano Mancuso, un testo scientifico-divulgativo finzionale, in cui l’autore si serve di una voce narrante insolita e provocatoria: un vegetale, rappresentante della nazione delle piante, che, rivolgendosi all’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite, invita il mondo umano a ripensare il rapporto con la natura e con gli altri esseri viventi. L’aspetto centrale della riflessione critica è il modo, dunque, attraverso cui l’universo vegetale si (auto)rappresenta attraverso un linguaggio – e un autore – umano, e quanto quest’ultimo incida nella costruzione del punto di vista della narrazione. Il presente studio ha un duplice obiettivo: da una parte intende mostrare le strategie linguistiche adottate dall’autore, attraverso un approccio metodologico che combina ecolinguistica ed ecostilistica; dall’altra, analizzare il rapporto tra autore umano e narratore non-umano, per far emergere le ideologie alla base di una narrazione che ha il potere di riconcettualizzare la posizione dell’essere umano nella gerarchia multispecie.
