The volume Arneo is a photographic and historiographical study dedicated to the Arneo area, located between the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto. The result of a project promoted by the Regional Council of Puglia and the ArgentoVivo association, the book combines contemporary photography, social memory and landscape investigation. Twelve authors present a multifaceted portrait of a territory marked by post-war peasant struggles, the “burning of bicycles” in 1950 and the transformations that changed its identity and destiny. The images, together with historical and archaeological essays, outline a complex landscape, suspended between abandonment and rebirth, where the memory of social struggles and the mark of ancient civilisations merge in a reflection on the relationship between man, land and time. Il volume Arneo è una ricerca fotografica e storiografica dedicata al territorio dell’Arneo, tra le province di Lecce, Brindisi e Taranto. Frutto di un progetto promosso dal Consiglio regionale della Puglia e dall’associazione ArgentoVivo, il libro intreccia fotografia contemporanea, memoria sociale e indagine paesaggistica. Dodici autori restituiscono un ritratto plurale di un territorio segnato dalle lotte contadine del dopoguerra, dal “rogo delle biciclette” del 1950 e dalle trasformazioni che ne hanno mutato identità e destino. Le immagini, insieme ai saggi storici e archeologici, delineano un paesaggio complesso, sospeso tra abbandono e rinascita, dove la memoria delle lotte sociali e il segno delle civiltà più antiche si fondono in una riflessione sul rapporto tra uomo, terra e tempo.
