Monitoring the power consumption, in both residential and industrial sectors, is becoming a critical task for ensuring a sustainable growth. In this paper, we introduce a new generation of smart meters that are powered only by the energy harvested from the main power line in non-intrusive way. Thanks to an efficient adaptive policy, it meets energy neutral conditions. Experimental results show the energy sustainability of the approach under various loads. When the aggregate residential power consumption exceeds 1.9 kW, the harvested power is enough to enable additional processing features, such as in-situ load identification algorithms and Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM).

Abstract
Monitoring the power consumption, in both residential and industrial sectors, is becoming a critical task for ensuring a sustainable growth. In this paper, we introduce a new generation of smart meters that are powered only by the energy harvested from the main power line in non-intrusive way. Thanks to an efficient adaptive policy, it meets energy neutral conditions. Experimental results show the energy sustainability of the approach under various loads. When the aggregate residential power consumption exceeds 1.9 kW, the harvested power is enough to enable additional processing features, such as in-situ load identification algorithms and Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
