The centenary of Fernando Távora’s birth has given rise to a series of initiatives, starting, of course, in his hometown, seat of the school he co-founded, FAUP, and of the archive that now preserves his legacy as an architect at the Marques da Silva Foundation, and extending to other locations linked to his academic history, the Department of Architecture in Coimbra, but also, in a deep and long-lasting bond, to Italy. Thanks to the generosity of the institutions that launched these initiatives and those who participated in them in Portugal and Italy, it has been possible to compile in this volume a compendium of some of the many ongoing research projects on the figure of an architect who, far beyond his recognised centrality in the history of Portuguese architecture in the second half of the 20th century, is increasingly emerging as a key figure, also at an international level, not so much of modernist revisionism, to which he also contributes in an original way, but rather of those who, even at the cost of the apparent inactuality of their position, were able to identify new themes and tasks for the discipline at the turn of the post-war period, offering us a vision of architecture that is highly effective and relevant today.

Abstract
The centenary of Fernando Távora’s birth has given rise to a series of initiatives, starting, of course, in his hometown, seat of the school he co-founded, FAUP, and of the archive that now preserves his legacy as an architect at the Marques da Silva Foundation, and extending to other locations linked to his academic history, the Department of Architecture in Coimbra, but also, in a deep and long-lasting bond, to Italy. Thanks to the generosity of the institutions that launched these initiatives and those who participated in them in Portugal and Italy, it has been possible to compile in this volume a compendium of some of the many ongoing research projects on the figure of an architect who, far beyond his recognised centrality in the history of Portuguese architecture in the second half of the 20th century, is increasingly emerging as a key figure, also at an international level, not so much of modernist revisionism, to which he also contributes in an original way, but rather of those who, even at the cost of the apparent inactuality of their position, were able to identify new themes and tasks for the discipline at the turn of the post-war period, offering us a vision of architecture that is highly effective and relevant today.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
