The chapter analyzes the use and identification of the plant called persea in Greco-Egyptian alchemical texts, with particular attention to the books on tinctures attributed to Democritus. Through a com¬parison with new evidence recently identified within the Arabo-Latin alchemical tradi¬tion, the chapter revisits the question of possible relationships between the pseudo-Dem¬ocritean alchemical texts and the medico-magical writings of the Hellenistic naturalist Bolos of Mendes.

Abstract
The chapter analyzes the use and identification of the plant called persea in Greco-Egyptian alchemical texts, with particular attention to the books on tinctures attributed to Democritus. Through a com¬parison with new evidence recently identified within the Arabo-Latin alchemical tradi¬tion, the chapter revisits the question of possible relationships between the pseudo-Dem¬ocritean alchemical texts and the medico-magical writings of the Hellenistic naturalist Bolos of Mendes.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
