The problem of reference has always been at the center of discussions in analytical philosophy. In this paper, after analyzing the classical positions, we focus on a semiotic reading based on the indications of Charles S. Peirce. Through this reading, it is possible to account for the visions mentioned and propose an original one that takes into account the peculiarity of the phenomenon of nicknames.
