In this chapter, we extensively discuss the system architectures, protocol stack, and interfaces for 5G and 5G-advanced, standardized by 3GPP in the framework discussed in Chapter 3. These include non- terrestrial network (NTN) nodes embarking transparent or regenerative payloads, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) or wireless access backhaul (WAB) nodes, with and without functional split solutions. Based on the 5G/5G-advanced system, the evolution in the 6G multidimensional multilayered architecture is discussed together with the key network design principles.

Abstract
In this chapter, we extensively discuss the system architectures, protocol stack, and interfaces for 5G and 5G-advanced, standardized by 3GPP in the framework discussed in Chapter 3. These include non- terrestrial network (NTN) nodes embarking transparent or regenerative payloads, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) or wireless access backhaul (WAB) nodes, with and without functional split solutions. Based on the 5G/5G-advanced system, the evolution in the 6G multidimensional multilayered architecture is discussed together with the key network design principles.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
