Online Voting Advice Applications (VAAs) have become an increasingly popular instrument to map parties’ policy positions in multidimensional political spaces. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the contribution of VAAs for party placement research. We begin by discussing the multiple methodological approaches for party positioning among VAAs. Then, we introduce the EU Profiler/euandi (EUP&I) transnational VAA project as our case study. Next, we discuss the merits and weaknesses of VAAs in relation to other methods, namely expert surveys and text analysis of party manifestos. Finally, we triangulate the party positions of the EUP&I longitudinal dataset with those stemming from the Chapel Hill Expert Survey and the Comparative Manifesto Project to assess their validity and compare their relative performances. The analysis is focused on three key axes of political competition: socio-economic left-right, cultural liberal-conservative (GAL-TAN), and pro-anti EU integration.
