Tra geometria e astronomia: Arato, ‘Phaenomena’, 541-43 e la sua ricezione nella letteratura latina

This paper deals with the literary reception of a passage from Aratus’ Phaenomena (vv. 541-43) where the poet, to estimate the distance between the earthly observer and the zodiac, resort to a theorem of plane geometry (the equivalence between the radius of the circle and each side of the regular hexagon inscribed in the circle).

Questo articolo esamina la ricezione, nella letteratura latina, di un passo dei Phaenomena di Arato (vv. 541-43) in cui il poeta, per offrire una stima della distanza tra l’osservatore terrestre e le stelle dello zodiaco, ricorre a un teorema di geometria piana (l’equivalenza tra il raggio del cerchio e il lato di un esagono regolare inscritto nella circonferenza).
