The contribution, which stems from the exhibition ‘Per imagines. Latin classics and artist's books from Dürer to Picasso’, hosted at the Medieval Civic Museum in Bologna (24 May - 5 October 2025), examines the relationship between text and image in a number of artist's books illustrating Virgil's Georgics in the 1940s. Particular attention is paid to the etchings by De Segonzac (1947) and Manzù (1948), for which it provides a detailed description.
Il contributo, che nasce a margine della mostra "Per imagines. Classici latini e libri d’artista da Dürer a Picasso" (Bologna, Museo Civico Medievale, 24 maggio - 5 ottobre 2025) prende in esame il rapporto tra testo e immagine in alcuni libri d'artista che illustrarono le Georgiche di Virgilio negli anni '40 del XX secolo; particolare attenzione è dedicata alle acqueforti di De Segonzac (1947) e Manzù (1948), delle cui edizioni, esposte in mostra, fornisce anche una scheda.
