This paper analyses the fifteenth-century Italian manuscript Uppsala University Library, Carolina Rediviva, C 805, which contains a vernacular translation/reworking of the Bible encompassing some portions of the Old Testament. While certain books and passages closely follow the Scripture, others display omissions, expansions, and apocryphal insertions. The version of the book of Ruth shows close affinities with that of a Russian manuscript studied by Lino Leonardi. The Uppsala manuscript text is written in Venetian, with Paduan influence.

Abstract

This paper analyses the fifteenth-century Italian manuscript Uppsala University Library, Carolina Rediviva, C 805, which contains a vernacular translation/reworking of the Bible encompassing some portions of the Old Testament. While certain books and passages closely follow the Scripture, others display omissions, expansions, and apocryphal insertions. The version of the book of Ruth shows close affinities with that of a Russian manuscript studied by Lino Leonardi. The Uppsala manuscript text is written in Venetian, with Paduan influence.
