This essay aims to reconstruct the evolution of children’s institutions in Italy after World War II in relation to the educational role of the family, which was also subject to profound change from the first half of the 20th century. In order to define the relations between early childhood care institutions and the family, two main aspects need to be reconstructed: on the one hand, retracing their role in assisting children up to the age of three and promoting women’s employment, and on the other hand, analyzing how these institutions, which ensured assistance care and hygiene, gradually transformed into educational ones aimed at taking in children and educating them to compensate for the absence of parents busy at work during the day.

Abstract
This essay aims to reconstruct the evolution of children’s institutions in Italy after World War II in relation to the educational role of the family, which was also subject to profound change from the first half of the 20th century. In order to define the relations between early childhood care institutions and the family, two main aspects need to be reconstructed: on the one hand, retracing their role in assisting children up to the age of three and promoting women’s employment, and on the other hand, analyzing how these institutions, which ensured assistance care and hygiene, gradually transformed into educational ones aimed at taking in children and educating them to compensate for the absence of parents busy at work during the day.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
