FuturE-Pack: A collective research journey into smart and sustainable packaging design

This volume brings together scientific contributions produced by an articulated community of scholars in design and industrial engineering, working within research organisations across Italy, thus forming a genuine network of packaging experts. The opportunity that enabled and funded this type of basic research was the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with reference to the Extended Partnership PE11 working on Made in Italy Circolare e Sostenibile (MICS), which activated eight research spokes involving 25 public institutions and leading national enterprises. Among these, Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna has managed Spoke 1, dedicated to the topic of Digital Advanced Design: technologies, processes, and tools. This Spoke has been developed by a large and diverse research team that I have had the pleasure and honour of coordinating scientifically.
