During and in the aftermath of periods of economic uncertainty, cooperatives play a crucial role in fostering employment stability, labor cost efficiency, and social innovation. This study examines the impact of social micro-cooperatives in Italy, comparing them with social micro-capitalist enterprises over the period 2012-2022. Using a unique dataset covering all active firms, we analyze the labor cost-to-added-value ratio as a key economic indicator. Despite a decline in the number of cooperatives, their ability to prioritize employment highlights their resilience and adaptive capacity. By employing a non-standard minimization approach to address unobserved heterogeneity, we find that the coefficient associated with cooperative presence increased significantly from 2012 to 2022, underscoring their growing economic impact. These results confirm that cooperatives are essential drivers of economic stability and inclusive growth, demonstrating how innovation in organizational models can contribute to both social and economic well-being.

Abstract
These results confirm that cooperatives are essential drivers of economic stability and inclusive growth, demonstrating how innovation in organizational models can contribute to both social and economic well-being.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
