The research, focused on the section of the Italian coastline from the Po delta to the Conero promontory, aims to investigate the relationship between settlements that were traditionally defined as having a harbour function and their palaeo-environmental context, with particular regard to the pre-Roman period. The lagoonal nature of the environment in which the Etruscan port of Spina flourished has been known since antiquity: the systematisation of old data and new acquisitions now makes it possible to investigate the settlement dynamics of the Po Valley centre and its territory with new awareness. In the same way, detailed analysis also allows us to shed light on the marshy or wetland environments in which other ports were born, traditionally less considered in the literature for this chronological phase, especially along the Marches coastline: the case studies of Ancona and Numana will be discussed here, advancing new reconstructive proposals on the topography of these settlements. The perspective is to establish interpretative models functional to an integrated reading of ports and anchorages in the ancient Adriatic.

Abstract
The perspective is to establish interpretative models functional to an integrated reading of ports and anchorages in the ancient Adriatic.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
