This article examines the concept of authorship, beginning with the relationship between epigraphs and novels. After providing a critical overview of the use of epigraphs in today's consumer society, it focuses on their use as a narrative strategy and a means of adding voices to a novel. John Fowles's The French Lieutenant's Woman (1969) is used as a paradigmatic example.

L'articolo indaga il fenomeno dell'autorialità a partire dalla relazione tra epigrafe e romanzo. Dopo una panoramica volta a inquadrare in modo critico l'uso dell'epigrafe nell'attuale società dei consumi, l'articolo si concentra in particolare sull'uso dell'epigrafe come strategia narrativa e moltiplicazione delle voci romanzesche, prendendo come caso paradigmatico The French Lieutenant's Woman (1969) di John Fowles.
