The article examines the multiple and chronological diverse images of Giovanni Pico della Mirandola preserved in Johannes Reuchlin's works. It is known that Reuchlin met Pico and discussed with him some of his conclusions in Florence in 1491. The image of Pico changes according not only with the policy of the Church towards the Count of Mirandola, from utter condemnation under Innocent VIII to rehabilitation under Alexander VI, but also according to the stages of Reuchlin's process against Pfefferkorn and the Dominicans of Cologne. The study offers, between the lines, also a history of the transmission (creative and not always faithful) of Pico's doctrines, through his German self-nominated pupil, propagandist and apologist.
