In this text, we describe the development of an optimised, low-cost and advanced workflow for the digitisation of fabric samples in small and medium textile industries. The calibrated workflow through the use of RelightLab software enables the acquisition of some physical appearance properties of the sample and converts them into texture maps, that are used to reproduce the total appearance of the material in virtual space following the PBR (Physical Based Rendering) workflow. We introduce the novel SALA-Frame (Shadow-Aided Light Alignment frame), which is a low-cost 3D printable hardware that aims to increase the accuracy of the light sampling processes when using hand-held light sources; and we explain the new features implemented in RelightLab aimed at extending its field of application and improving its robustness and versatility. Lastly, we define the future roadmap of the software implementation and discuss the results.
