The activation of the Bologna University’s Master’s Degree in “Religions Histories Cultures” dates back to the academic year 2022/23, and yet fits in at the end of a journey deeply rooted in the longer history of unified Italy, coming across a few crucial crossroads of Italian history – such as the issue of the intricate transit from religious tolerance to actual (still problematic) religious freedom. I will deal with it mostly referring to the encyclopedia for essays on the history of Christianity in post-unification Italy that is the two-volume work Cristiani d’Italia, directed by Alberto Melloni and published by Treccani in 2011.
