Uomini-pesce e denti di serpente. Lo straniero nel Romanzo di Alessandro greco.

This article examines the imaginery, both textual and, when possible, iconographical of the ξένος in the Alexander Romance: it explores the strange populations of India, in their extreme physical wierdness and, in the case of the Gymnosophists, in their extreme knowledge. It shows how ms. codex Venetus AEIB n. 5 of San Giorgio dei Greci depicts all the creatures and all the different countries, both imaginary and historical (such as Persians and Indians), and, after offering a moral differentions of the unclean nations of Gog and Magog, shows how in reality, in an Hellenistic world, the idea itself of stranger and of different is destroyed by the idea of a cosmopolitan empire.

Questo articolo esamina líimmaginario, testuale e, quando possibile, iconografico dello ξένος nel Romanzo díAlessandro: esplora le strane popolazioni dellíIndia, nella loro estrema stranezza fisica e, nel caso dei Gimnosofisti, anche nella loro estrema conoscenza. Mostra come il ms. codex Venetus AEIB n. 5 di San Giorgio dei Greci mostra tutte le creature e tutti i popoli differenti, che siano immaginari o storici (come Persiani e Indiani), e, dopo aver offerto una differenziazione morale delle nazioni immonde di Gog e Magog, mostra come, in realtà, in un modo ellenistico l'idea stesso di straniero e di diverso è distrutta da quella di un impero cosmopolita.
