The interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating interactions between speakers of different languages and cultural backgrounds. Their tasks extend beyond mere translation, encompassing intercultural dimensions. This contribution first explores the nature of communication and its cultural aspects. By analysing two interpreting excerpts between Italian and Chinese, we can observe the emergence of cultural specificities and reflect on the interpreter's interventions. Ultimately, the discussion highlights the mediating activities undertaken by the interpreter, showcasing their constant endeavour to navigate the complexities of communication across cultures.
