This contribution is dedicated to the description of a recently completed project, funded by the EU Commission, on the topic of legal certainty and the protection of the rights of suspects and defendants in criminal proceedings. The aim of the research (that has been conducted) is to verify whether and to what extent the use of AI can allow the effective protection of the individual rights of suspects and defendants to be strengthened, in a complex and multilevel system such as the one created today by the legal sources adopted by the EU.
